CUBA

an island nation:
With a 3,735-kilometre (2,321-mile) coastline, Cuba has more beaches than any country in the Caribbean. There are caves in some shoreline cliffs that in the past served as hideouts for pirates, rebels, and escaped slaves. Cuba's coasts also have coral reefs.

As an island nation, the sea is one of Cuba's most important resources. Cuba's
natural harbours and its location have made it an essential trading hub.
Cuba's beaches and coral reefs attract tourists to the island who bring in a lot
of money. Fishing is also an important industry. Cuba exports fish, shrimp,
and lobsters.

The Malecon in Havana is a waterfront drive and promenade. It is a popular meeting place for young people after school. There are monuments up and down the path. Large waves sometimes crash over the walls on to the pavement.

SOUTH ASIA : MALDIVES and SRI-LANKA

In 1960, Sri Lanka (then called Ceylon) made Sirimavo Bandaranaike the world’s first female prime minister. She succeeded her husband, who had been assassinated in 1959. Women do not typically hold political or economic power in South Asian countries. However, women have occupied leadership roles in the region, including Indira Gandhi (India) and Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan).

The Republic of Maldives is a group of atolls in the Indian Ocean, located about 644 kilometres (400 miles) south and west of Sri Lanka. The country is made up of more than 1,000 islands, none of which rise more than 1.83 metres (6 feet) above sea level. Only about 200 of the islands are inhabited. As the Earth's temperature rises and sea ice melts into the oceans, people living in coastal cities worry about what the future holds. Global warming is a great concern to the Maldivian people, because rising oceans could actually make their country uninhabitable. Other islands in South Asia include three groups that belong to India - the Nicobars and Andamans in the Bay of Bengal, and the Laccadives in the Arabian Sea. Many unique species of birds and animals live on these islands.
